Denis Kucherov — Musician (Russia – UK), festival producer Dairafest, teacher, composer. Denis plays Indian percussion instruments, as well as African, Persian and modern handpan, also the electronic music
Denis K is one of the best performers of traditional music in Europe. He began studying classical music and tabla at the age of 14. The first steps he did at the JNCC Cultural Center in Moscow, while simultaneously doing acting in the pantomime theatre. His first teacher was Hashmad Ali Khan, who, seeing his young talent, invited him to India for further improvement.

In Delhi, he was fortunate to become a student of Ustad Rafiuddin Sabri, a representative of the Delhi Gharana school – the most ancient school of musical art according to the tabla. Graduated from Prayag Sangeet Samiti Institute (Master’s Degree). Studied South Indian Carnatic style. Has performed at leading concert venues across India.

  • In 2009 Denis recorded the album “Soulful friendship” with famous Indian musicians Mohtram Sabri (sitar) and Basharat Ali (vocals).
  • In the same year he took part in the recording of the album “Mother Earth, father Sky” with the group Huun-Huur-Tu and Sainho, released in Germany.
  • In 2010, the album “Levitation” Live was released with Tony Levin (King Crimson).
